Highways and Bridges

WSP International Management Consultants WSP were awarded construction supervision of several highway project in Belize. PES carried out survey and geotechnical investigations and supplied field technicians and inspectors for the projects.
Border Management Agency As specialist subconsultant to Architectural firm International Environments Limited. PES designed a new road network serving the border crossing and free zone developments. Work included geotechnical investigations, topographical survey, drainage network, pavement design and geometric road design.
UTC Overseas Inc This logistics company specializes in the management of heavy load transportation, e.g. large generators and transformers worldwide. Route appraisals involve assessment of road pavement strengths, road geometry etc. and how these may affect the movement of large multi axle heavy transporters. Particular attention is paid to bridges which must be traversed to assess safe load capacity. A comprehensive report is prepared containing recommendations for each route. PES has carried out such studies in Asia, the Caribbean, Central and South America.
BECA International Consultants Limited PES was associated with the above consultant for the Southern Highway Upgrading Project. For the project, Mr. Walker designed a total of 17 composite deck highway bridges with spans ranging from 10m to 30m.

Industrial projects

ADM Belize Mills Limited Design of office buildings, grain handling equipment foundations and piled grain silo bases of weight up to 800 tonnes.
G.O.B. Belize Marketing Board PES carried out civil and structural design for a soybean processing factory in Yo Creek, Northern Belize. This included design of a 10m deep receiving pit, 10m and 18m diameter silo bases, weighbridge, conveyor tunnels and support structures.
Marine Farms Belize Limited The company carried out design and construction supervision for an aquaculture project, namely a Cobia fish nursery producing young broodstock from larvae. Main works included design of a wetwell seawater intake, R.C. water storage tanks, process buildings (broodstock and larvae) and gravity pipework with appurtenances.
Royal Haskoning Marine Consultants Design and partial construction supervision for a major granular sugar port facility. This proposed port was designed by marine consultants Posford Duvivier (now Haskoning) to export bulk sugar and molasses by special barge to vessels at anchor. PES produced detailed design drawings for a truck bottom dump sugar discharge structure, 15,000 tonne bulk sugar store and molasses storage tanks.

Building and Structural

International Environments Limited Belize PES advises this architectural firm on structural matters. The company has recently carried out detailed foundation and structural design for a 5 storey office building (The Matalon Business Center) recently constructed in Belize City. This is a steel framed structure which has been designed to sustain hurricane wind and seismic loading based on IBC requirements.
Bermello Ajamil & Partners This world renowned Florida based company designed the second phase of the "Las Terrazas" project which is a prestigious tourism project in Ambergris Caye, Belize. It includes various condominium units of up to four levels, spa, swimming pools and restaurant/bar. PES carried out all structural design for this project which used local building materials, e.g. thatch and local hardwoods as well as traditional reinforced concrete framing.
Gary B Coursey & Associates This US architectural firm designed a condominium project known as the 'Villas at CocoPlum' in Placencia. PES was responsible for all civil design for the project including roads, utility services, swimming pool and the structural design of the clubhouse and 3 storey villas.
Cisco Construction Limited PES designed all temporary supporting falsework to support erection of a 90m single span highway bridge truss at Kendal. The design had to consider hurricane, seismic and river flood forces during erection of the truss span.


Belize Airports Authority PES has assisted in the long term expansion of the Goldson International Airport through the provision of design and construction supervision services on the Western Taxiway, apron expansion and runway turning button. The company also designed a number of building expansions for the main terminal building at the airport to expand the arrival and departure areas. The company also designed and supervised the construction of several public regional airstrips serving San Pedro and Corozal and designed a number of private airstrips.
Belize Airport Concession Company Limited PES designed and supervised construction of several major expansion programs at the International Airport on behalf of the BACC including extension of the main runway to accommodate widebody aircraft. This was based on a pavement of marshal asphalt surfacing over cement treated base/subbase layers. This required the construction of a 1 mile diversion to the airport access road and construction of a new road junction. In addition, the aircraft parking apron was expanded to accommodate an additional widebody aircraft with pavement construction in PQ concrete slabbing.
Lufthansa Consulting GmbH This specialist consultant carried out a detailed audit of airport facilities and study at the international airport and produced a report presenting a phased 20 year development plan. P.E.S. participated in the study by advising on ground conditions and prepared preliminary plans, design data and cost estimates.
WSP International Management Consultants UK WSP were commissioned by the Government of the Turks and Caicos Islands to carry out a major asset study of all public assets, including cost valuations and the estimation of maintenance costs. PES was engaged to appraise the territory's aviation sector and submit a comprehensive report, forming part of the overall study. The islands have 6 airports, four of which operate to full international standard.

Water Supply

Marine Farms Belize Limited PES has designed a number of seawater retaining tanks for this company in Dangriga as part of a fish farming development project. These were of reinforced concrete construction. A 5.0m deep wetwell to received raw sea water was designed and constructed in very poor soil conditions.
Marshall Macklin Monaghan PES has associated with the above Canadian consultant for Belize projects over many years. Services provided included engineering survey and soil investigations in connection with extensions to the water systems in Belize City and San Pedro.
Belize Water Services Limited PES carried out R.C. structural design for water clarifiers and storage tanks in connection with the Belmopan Water Treatment Works extension. The company designed and supervised construction of mass concrete foundations for elevated steel water storage tanks in Santa Rita, Calcutta, Orange Walk, Dangriga and Belmopan. Bases were designed to resist uplift from hurricane wind forces.
Consolidated Water Company Limited PES carried out geotechnical investigations and designed a piled base slab for a ground level steel water tank of capacity 1 million gallons (3790m3) constructed in San Pedro. Tendering and construction supervision services were also provided.
